10 Occasions to Design Cards For

Being a graphic designer who designs stationery or cards means looking for inspiration on a near enough constant basis. Staying fresh and current with your designs is essential to stay ahead of the pack these days. If you’re on the hunt for some ideas for card designs to give you an edge, then you’ve come to the right spot. Hey – we’re an online print shop who cares! So instead of listing the most obvious choices, which you’ve probably already done to death, we’ve done some fun research for you and found some quirky and comedic days for your card designs that we think people will love!

1 – National Coffee Day

I mean, we know so many people who literally can’t start their day without a cup of coffee! Think of all those people out there who will have friends, family or colleagues who truly love their rich, roasty brew. There might even be an in joke about it. Celebrate this caffeine-infused holiday by designing a card that showcases the joy and energy that coffee brings to so many!

2 – International Friendship Day

For so many of us, our mates are everything, more even than family a lot of the time. They’re the ones who get us through the hard times and also make the good times better. We create memories and withstand the ups and downs of life together. Friendship is a special bond that deserves to be celebrated. Design a card that expresses the appreciation for friends and the meaningful connections people share.

3 – Earth Day

Becoming ever more part of daily discussions, our planet is a precious resource that increasing numbers of people are taking responsibility to protect. Creating a card that raises awareness about environmental issues and encourages people to take action to preserve the planet is a great way to do your bit. A design that can be used as a decorative element in someone’s home also means helping to reduce waste as well.

4 – National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)

A slightly more niche idea – November is National Novel Writing Month, a time when writers around the world set out to write a novel in just 30 days. There will be plenty of people out there with someone close to them who is a writer and may want to find a token gesture of their support to them. Design a card that celebrates the creativity and dedication of writers everywhere.

5 – International Women’s Day

Not so unusual, but a day that is becoming more and more significant every year. Women are taking this day by the horns, the globe over, and are lifting each other up in continued efforts of solidarity. Women have made enormous contributions to society and deserve to be celebrated. Creating a card that honours the achievements of women throughout history and encourages women to continue breaking barriers is a great offering for anyone out there who wants to gift a woman close to them with something empowering.

6 – National Puppy Day

Oh come on – we can hear you exclaim. We’re being slightly ironic here but who doesn’t love puppies? Many dog owners see their silky pals as one of the family. They go everywhere with them and even pretend to give them voices! Design a card that celebrates the cuteness and playfulness of these furry friends. We can bet you that these cards will get snapped up.

7 – International Day of Peace

Perhaps an appropriate card for anyone who has been through the mill, or for workplaces that struggle to find harmony. Let’s face it, the world can always use more peace, understanding and tolerance. Designing a card that promotes harmony, unity, and global cooperation is a wonderful idea and there will be many who agree.

8 – National Clean Out Your Fridge Day

Never heard of this day? Neither had we until we started doing some research. On November 15th, people are encouraged to clean out their refrigerators and get rid of expired or unused food items. Create a card that adds a little humour to this practical task. Ideal for people who have scruffy housemates that they want to give a message to or a parent who is despairing of a grown up child still living at home.

9 – International Talk Like a Pirate Day

This is not a joke! On September 19th, people around the world channel their inner pirate and speak in pirate slang. Design a card that celebrates this silly and fun holiday. A slightly absurd idea, we even admit ourselves, but with themed pirate weddings even a thing nowadays, perhaps it’s not as wacky as we think…

10 – National Grammar Day

Grammar nerds unite! On March 4th, grammar enthusiasts celebrate the importance of proper grammar and language usage. Think of all those people out there who (annoyingly) love correcting how their friends or family say things. Design a card that celebrates the beauty and power of language. But also a card for all those who want to poke a bit of fun at their nerdy friends or family.
