Canvas Printing vs Poster Printing
There are many ways to brighten up rooms in your home, or even at the office. Whilst wallpapers and textured paint can make a space more interesting, the best way to lift a room and make a positive difference is to hang photographs or pictures that complement the rest of the room environment – you can choose either printed posters or easy canvas prints to achieve that – here are some aspects of both poster printing and canvas printing for you to consider:
Canvas Prints
Simply put, a canvas print is where an image is printed onto a canvas that is then stretched across a frame to display in any number of locations. They are fabulous wall decorations, are durable and long-lasting and can be printed in various sizes.
Poster Prints
A poster print is a printed reproduction image on paper – often using for advertising or promotional materials they can also serve as great decoration in homes or offices. They are available in different sizes and can vary in quality depending upon the paper types used for printing.
What Content To Use
Either poster option is suitable to reproduce virtually any image you like – it can be a famous painting, a personal photograph, or any other image. Printed posters are often produced in larger numbers and can, therefore, be more readily available – canvas prints are usually more personal and customised but can also be produced with generic images if required.
Which Materials Are Used?
Poster prints are available in different quality papers – usually printed onto photographic-type, high-quality paper they can also be produced on vinyl. The heavier the paper, the better quality the print is likely to be and tend to be longer lasting.
Canvas prints are made of different fibres, either organic or synthetic – typical canvas materials are cotton and linseed fibres as these produce high-quality images and are long-lasting with a smooth finish.
High Quality Print
Poster prints are produced using high-quality inks with a semi-gloss or full-gloss finish giving a smart, high-end finish. Canvas prints produce sharp images, the equal of any paper printed posters but with a textured, more luxurious finish.
The Difference In Maintenance
Printed posters are more demanding in maintenance than canvas prints. Paper posters need to be kept in a protective casing (glass or plastic) and require a de-acidification liquid application periodically and any frame and glass to be cleaned regularly, whereas canvas prints just need to be dusted off every few days to maintain the quality.
A Variety Of Sizes
Both printed options are available in many different sizes – it really all depends on your individual requirements and taste. You can opt for a customised size on a canvas print as well as the standard available sizes and canvas prints lend themselves to having split images as well as single picture content. Printed posters are a little more restrictive. They are available in the usual standard sizes but usually only display a single image – it is more difficult to reproduce multiple images on a single printed poster.
Suitable Locations
People tend to opt for printed posters to display on bedroom walls – these locations are usually away from common, potentially harmful contaminants and will have minimal human contact. They can be displayed in ‘busier’ household rooms, such as a lounge, kitchen/diner but are susceptible to damage there.
Canvas prints are more durable and can be displayed in any room in the house and even outdoors! They can better withstand harsher environments and conditions are only minimally affected by moisture, dust, and human contact.
Convenience Of Hanging
Canvas prints are easy to display – they can be simply hung on the wall whether they have an added frame or just the stretcher bars from the original mounting. Printed paper posters require more effort to display as they can be easily affixed to a wall using tape or glue, but both these options can cause damage to the wall when removed. You can frame your printed poster and hang it like a canvas print, but this will require extra expense.
A Question Of Price
The all-important issue of price. You can purchase printed posters at a low price, depending upon the content – as many teenage bedrooms will testify! Canvas prints are also great value for money as they are more likely to be used to display personal, customised content and have the greater durability and quality and are eminently affordable against other print options such as photographic prints and artworks.
So, as you see, both canvas printing and poster printing have their strong points and advantages – both are inexpensive and can look good in a host of different locations. Overall, canvas printing would seem to be the better value option, but it really all depends on the content you want and the location you are going to display your prints – either will bring interest and a brightness to your wall spaces!
